Senate House - London's 'first skyscraper'
Senate House, home to the University of London, is an exquisite building steeped in history, and is the perfect venue for celebrating the academic achievements of the students graduating from the University of London’s Masters in Professional Accountancy.
Opened in 1937, and dubbed by some as ‘London’s first skyscraper’, Senate House has stood as a monument to modern education in the heart of London for around 80 years. In this time, Senate House has created a remarkable history of visits and interesting facts:
- Senate House is regularly graced by Royalty. Submerged under the building is a time capsule, which was placed by King George V and Queen Mary, when they laid The Foundation Stone in 1933.
- It has played host to Hollywood blockbusters, like Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, and attracted the glitz of London Fashion Week.
- Sir Winston Churchill and Desmond Tutu are among the many world leaders that have visited Senate House.
- Culture is embedded in the very walls of the building, home to the University of London – named ’The People’s University’ by Charles Dickens. Ancient symbols and alphabets from across ancient cultures are featured on its ceilings.
